Goddess Body

Goddess Body.  I went for a massage last week and was self-conscious (more than usual) because of my nomad weight gain (I do find a local bakery in each city).  As I mentioned my discomfort to my lovely massage therapist, she was quick to say that we all inhabit gorgeous goddess bodies.  The statement struck me.

Eighteen years ago, my goddess body was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Since then, I have advocated for annual mammograms and well-woman screenings.  In thinking about my goddess body, I celebrate that it has created, birthed and fed two amazing humans.  It has given me a strong back and shoulders to carry my responsibilities.  It is a little worn for the wear, but it is happy and strong. And 18 years later, it is healthy.

If you are a goddess, or love a gorgeous goddess (wife, mother, sister, friends), this is the month to remind them that you need them to treat their bodies well and to prioritize self-care in its many forms.  The Breast Cancer Awareness message is the same every year:

  • Make an appointment for an annual screening.

  • Keep the appointment.  There will always be something vying for your time, but your body should be a priority.

  • Take 2 Advil before and buy yourself a gift after.

  • Information is power.  Get the support and information you need to make informed decisions.

  • Call me. I will be an ally and advocate.

We all have a gorgeous goddess body to care for and to maintain.  I’m glad I had someone remind me.

Healthy Ta-Tas to all the Goddesses.
